A Connecticut Poem
By
The flag represents history and agriculture
Back on January 9th, 1788
Connecticut became our nation’s 5th state
The city of Hartford is this state’s capital
Where a variety of agriculture products grow
There’s 5,009 square miles in Connecticut
By Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts
Connecticut has a motto that’s well attained
“He who transplanted….still sustains”
It’s the “Constitution State” or the “Nutmeg State”
Though it’s relatively small, its resources are great
Here many goods are manufactured and shipped
It provides fruits and vegetables and lots of fish
Along with mining, fishing, and transportation
There are electrical plants and communication
It supplies much of our dairy and poultry
And household plants grown in nurseries
The tree of Connecticut is the White Oak
And the state’s flower is the Mountain Laurel
The American Robin is Connecticut’s bird
The state’s song “Yankee Doodle” is often heard
And the state’s mammal is the Sperm Whale
It’s the home of the officer: Nathan Hale
And the birthplace of two famous authors we know
Like Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe
In 1937 Connecticut became the first state
To issue permanent driver’s license plates
If you vacation there, there are places to go
Like the homes of soldiers and war generals
And lots of museums and planetariums
Plus Weird Science at the Mystic Aquarium
There is live entertainment and festivals
And for children, there are numerous carnivals
There are performing arts, dances, and balls
Gardening and cooking shows, and that’s not all
There are food venues with lots of foods to taste
There are historical sites as the Dinosaur Place
Take a trip to Connecticut, you won’t be bored
You’ll love its culture and the great outdoors
